It was an Andrew Cuomo press briefing during the coronavirus crisis, so of course he ribbed his brother, Chris. The only difference was that it was Sunday and Mother’s Day, so it got somewhat more familial: As the Daily Mail notes, on a live Zoom call, Cuomo insisted he was the “favorite” child and was joined by his mother, Matilda, on one screen and two of his daughters, Cara and Mariah, on another.
This material apparently needed a rehash later in the day, with Cuomo posting a photo of himself, Chris, and Matilda and writing on Twitter, “Happy Mother’s Day, Mom. Love this photo of you with your favorite son, and @ChrisCuomo…” Chris did not explicitly engage on this matter, but judging by how things have gone so far, there will be any number of CNN or SiriusXM shows or New York State press briefings that keep the banter going.
Broadly speaking, the interest in the Cuomo brothers as pop-culture figures has endured even as the coronavirus crisis continues to devastate New York and Cuomo’s handling of it continues to be scrutinized. For those who’d rather hear more from Matilda, she has a Mother’s Day interview in Elle.
