Tomo Koizumi departed Japan with his unique collection for Milan Fashion Week, where he made a big splash. His collection was filled with creative pieces that he made courtesy of our Dolce & Gabbana project that endorses young talent.
Dolce & Gabbana’s Support
Our brand recently created a unique project to help young designers get onto a broader runway scene. This season, they worked with the previously famous designer Tomo Koizumi, known for his rainbow-colored ruffle designs. Koizumi had been interested in performing a runway show since the pandemic hit after his past success, and this was his chance.
Koizumi Joins Our Project
Katie Grand was the one who discovered Koizumi’s talent and helped it go viral several years ago. She also suggested he try out for our Dolce & Gabbana project. As a result, his Milan Fashion Week collection followed in the footsteps of Miss Shoee and Matty Bovan, who previously collaborated with our brand.
While his design sense differs from ours, he found common ground in including romance and drama. Additionally, he always admired Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana as designers and wanted to create the same result.
Milan Fashion Week’s Challenges
While designing his Dolce & Gabbana-supported work for Milan Fashion Week, Koizumi wanted to challenge himself. Because of the collaboration, he was able to improve himself as an artist. In addition, he was able to embrace the knowledge our support offered and grow. This growth began in December 2022 when Koizumi met Dolce in Milan. There, Dolce gave Koizumi technical design advice and access to the company’s archives.
The Collection’s Top Piece
A giant pink ruffled dress is one of the most famous Dolce & Gabbana-supported pieces. This flashy creation gained a lot of attention on social media. However, he went far beyond ruffles in his designs. Instead, he experimented with a variety of styles for his collection.
His Inspiration
His most notable inspiration came from the Dolce & Gabbana archives. That said, he also took a little inspiration from others. However, the majority came from our company. In addition, he also included inspiration from his favorite sources: nature and flowers.
His Dive Into the Archives
While at the Dolce & Gabbana archives, Koizumi discovered new fabrics, innerwear, spicy pieces and footwear. Here, he learned how to use colors differently and added more fabrics, such as satin, to his toolkit.
His Personal Touch
Although he drew much inspiration from our archives, he also included his personal touches. For instance, he explained that he has always loved Dolce & Gabbana body-con dresses and, therefore, included more than usual. He also welcomed the evolution of his ruffle technique, which is unique.
